Specialized Training:
I've worked in the field of Social Work for more than 10 years in a variety of settings: cancer care, mental health & addictions, sexual & domestic abuse. Aside from a Master's in Social Work, I have training in a variety of counselling approaches: CBT, DBT, mindfulness, existential therapy, meaning-centered therapy, narrative therapy, somatic approaches and trauma recovery. I have specialized training in serious illness conversations and in children's grief (supporting parents to support children to understand and cope with end of life/bereavement).
Personal Statement:
All kinds of stressful life events can impact day-to-day functioning. A major life change, a loss, or stressful life event can make it feel like your bottom has fallen out from under you. Your world, once familiar to you, suddenly feels uncertain and full of chaos. Cumulative stress and chronic worry may be interfering with your ability to live a fulfilling, meaningful life. I work with people to build safety, expand coping, process painful feelings, construct meaning, and facilitate adjustment /integration. I bring a diverse background of experience and a compassionate presence as I support people to find their way through life stress and life change.
I consider it a great privilege to be led into the private (and painful) parts of people's lives and I'm constantly inspired by the clever and resilient ways that people grow around life stress.
