Recent Training in EMDR. Level 2 (This is a best practice Trauma Specific Treatment that involves desensitizing the individual to the trauma that they have experienced) It can be used with adults and children alike. Some modifications are made when it is used with children for instance having them draw a picture of the disturbing image instead of simply thinking about it in their minds eye. Children can process the trauma very quickly using this approach. I would be open to using this approach with adults and children/adolescents (ages 5 – 18).
Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. This is an approach that I have used for the past five years. It is also a best practice approach for trauma specific treatment. It involves using a workbook with children and adolescents that have experienced trauma in their lives. After building in a number of supports and strategies to combat trauma triggers and reminders a trauma narrative is completed with the child or adolescent. I have used this approach with 5 to 18 year olds.
Déclaration personnelle:
I am currently working for kidsLINK in St. Agatha just outside of Kitchener/Waterloo. I have worked there for the past 12 years. I am starting a small private practice with a focus on working with children, adolescents and adults using my trauma specific skills. I am working towards certification in EMDR and NMT. These are both cutting edge treatment modalities and have proven to be very effective in my current practice at kidsLINK.
NMT(Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics). This is a lens for looking at complex cases where there was insult to the development of the brain due to trauma (abuse, neglect, attachment issues). It was designed by Dr. Bruce Perry out of Texas and it involves brain mapping to better understand what treatments would be best used to help heal and re-organize the brain. The assessment involves the parents completing a questionnaire around resiliency factors and adverse events. The computer matrix is used to score and map the brain of the individual. Recommendations are made using an ecological approach based on Michael Unger’s work out of Dalhousie.
