Specialized Training:
I have made it a priority to expand and strengthen my clinical skills throughout my 20 year career, acquiring advanced formal training and expertise in a variety evidenced-based theories and approaches. This skill set allows me to draw from established frameworks in an integrative fashion to best suit your individual needs/goals and work toward improving overall mental, emotional and relational health. I weave these concepts and interventions into a naturally flowing conversation that feels supportive and informed/productive. While my practice is broad in scope, my areas of specialty include: Childhood Trauma, Adult Trauma, Family and Relationship Issues, Depression/Anxiety/Other Mental Health Issues, Situational Crisis/Stress, Self-Esteem, Sexual and Gender Diversity, Grief/Loss/Bereavement, and more. My advanced training includes: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness/Mindful Awareness Stabilization, Eye Movement & Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Emotionally-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Clinical Hypnosis, Indigenous Cultural Competency, Family Systems, and Trauma and Resiliency Approaches.
Personal Statement:
Working in a private practice setting allows me to provide professional counselling and psychotherapy in an optimal circumstance - at your desired pace and around your specific goals, without the constraints of a larger system imposed on our work or the therapeutic relationship. What I appreciate most about being a Registered Social Worker in private practice is witnessing the tremendous personal growth that people are able to achieve, and supporting individuals in meaningful ways to move forward in their lives. I operate from a collaborative/partnership approach that is non-pathologizing, strengths-based and trauma & attachment informed. Empowering/equipping people to navigate difficult life situations and change unhelpful patterns through validation, contextualization of experiences, principles of self-determination and skills development are central themes of my work. My professional experience has included clinical work in community-based, hospital/outpatient mental health and post-secondary settings, and has involved supervisory/leadership roles as well as provision of clinical consultation to other clinicians and Master of Social Work students. I have served as a professional consultant to child welfare organizations on issues extending from apprehension and time in care. I am an approved Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Provider, meaning that Indigenous people with a status number can access my services at no cost. My services are queer positive and anti-oppressive in nature. I offer my private practice services on week day evenings and weekends at the Toronto Healing Arts Centre.
