Dr. Amanda Jenkins is a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) and is a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW). She earned a PhD in Applied Social Psychology from the University of Guelph and completed her Master of Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University. She holds a Master of Arts (MA) in Historical, Theoretical and Critical Studies of Psychology from York University and graduated with an honours double major (BA) in psychology and anthropology from the University of Waterloo. She is a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) certified clinician with a specialization in women’s reproductive mental health. She has an extensive research background in women’s reproductive health. She specializes in providing counselling for women who are seeking support around postpartum anxiety, postpartum depression, postpartum OCD, infertility, traumatic birth, perinatal grief, puberty, menopause and menstruation.
Personal Statement:
Within our society there is a lot of shame and stigma attached to women’s health issues especially when it comes to our sexual and reproductive health. This prevents many women from seeking help. Amanda strives to provides a calm, safe and non-judgemental space for women to be heard, validated and supported. She is passionate about helping women in the community and incorporates mindfulness and compassion into her sessions to support women in their healing journeys. This includes helping women gain a deeper understanding of their self and their experiences so that they can move towards feelings of empowerment.
Amanda’s uses various therapeutic tools based on each client’s needs including person-centred, feminist, and CBT. She has additional training in sexual violence support and anti-oppressive approaches. She welcomes you to reach out and is happy to chat with you to see if there is a good fit for counselling.
