Specialized Training:
I am a trauma-informed therapist and I have a strengths-based approach within sessions. I use approaches such as solution-focused, narrative therapy, attachment-based therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Art Therapy. I like to use humor appropriately in sessions as a way of connecting us in an experience. Laughter can be healing. Connecting on a human-to-human level can be an amazing way to build rapport and a positive therapeutic relationship. It also helps to break down barriers and the power dynamic often seen in counselling. I am a white settler who is a member of the queer community. I have worked primarily with Indigenous communities and members of the queer community in my experience in social work over the past six years. I have lived experience and am knowledgeable about the non-monogamous community as well.
Personal Statement:
My clientele have often told me that they are happy to be able to work with someone who truly understands the experience of mental health and addiction as someone who has lived experience and extensive professional knowledge in these areas. Wherever you are in your healing journey, I will meet you there. You are the guide on your path to wellness. I offer counselling sessions, goal setting, support with Ontario Disability Support Program applications or ODSP Medical Reviews, safety planning, and harm reduction techniques. If you are looking for someone with this experience, please send me an email or visit my website, https://oab.owlpractice.ca/healingjourney to book an appointment with me to discuss further. I look forward to hearing from you! You can also find my Facebook page for my private practice, Healing Journey through this link: https://www.facebook.com/yourhealingjourney.
