Specialized Training:
I have supported clients through life transitions, anxiety, depression, ADHD, stress, academic issues, relationship issues, family conflict, trauma, bullying, sexual intimacy challenges and exploration, body image issues, parenting challenges and disordered eating. My hope is that counselling can be part of maintaining health and wellness for everyone. I am happy to see clients who are interested in taking a proactive approach to therapy as well.
I describe my therapeutic approach as integrative, directive, and relational. I draw on different styles of therapy depending on what clients are coming in for, grounded in neurobiology. I strive to be honest and transparent when offering suggestions, insights, and reflections.
Personal Statement:
People come to therapy for many reasons. I work well with people who are interested in taking a proactive approach to therapy; those that believe that recovery and hope are always possible by building on their strengths (which everyone has), and what is already going well in their life. In general, I believe therapy is meant to make you feel more free, and that there is always personal preference and choice in what we do together. If after our first session you decide not to work together, I will refund you. I respond to all emails within 24 hours, and typically 1-2 hours. As a therapist, my role is to offer insights, reflect patterns that I notice, and provide knowledge, skills, and tools to empower you to live the life of your dreams. While there is lots of listening and question asking throughout sessions, I also strive to be honest and transparent when offering suggestions, insights, and reflections back to you. I integrate cutting-edge, experiential, body-based therapies into my practice including EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), Attachment Focused Adult Psychotherapy, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy to move beyond some of the limits of traditional talk therapy. My hope is that in our work together, we can move beyond coping and start healing.
