Specialized Training:
I am a psycho-dynamically trained clinical social worker/therapist who has worked therapeutically with diverse populations (in correctional and community settings, with children, families, adolescents and adults) for over ten years since receiving my MSW. My approach is anti-oppressive, feminist, queer and trans positive, and psycho-dynamically oriented. To me, this means listening to, and noticing with you, communication from various verbal and non-verbal levels. It also means witnessing and acknowledging cultural, systemic, community and familial legacies of power and oppression and their impact on our internal and external lives.
Personal Statement:
We may notice and explore parts of you that have been quiet, silenced, or that have been in the background for any number of reasons, and this can be very valuable towards recognizing your fullness and multiplicity, and towards moving through life situations with greater awareness, compassion, and flexibility. I believe that the therapeutic process works by reliably offering time and space in which one is deeply listened to, and in which a sense of safety is nurtured such that one can begin to hear oneself. I believe that we hold deep knowledge and awareness that we can experience in a space that prioritizes and practices safety, respect, curiosity, non-judgment and creativity. I have found the therapeutic space to be one of unfolding and of deep acknowledgement. I have found it to be an often-contemplative space, and always an open one. I also believe that therapeutic work is a radically liberating and ethical practice with a social justice aim and impact.
